Owning a puppy is not always easy and knowing “what is the right thing to do” can be very challenging. Especially with all the advice and mixed messages that come hand in hand with owning a puppy.

Here are some usful puppy training tips

  1. Be as consistent as you can. Training needs to be followed through, even into adulthood.
  2. Never stop socialising.
  3. Practice training in different places, not just in the home.
  4. Most puppies learn at different rates, so be patient.
  5. Aim to get your puppy house-trained by 14/16 weeks.
  6. Feed a good diet.
  7. Stay away from high protein treats or coloured treats.
  8. Keep excitement low key.
  9. Use high prized treats to your advantage and for short periods.
  10. Lean how to motivate your puppy.
  11. Exercise your puppy mentally and physically.
  12. Your puppy will need to learn how to socialise on and off the lead.
  13. Don’t be put off by a bad experience, keep trying or seek help.

 

Here are some usful dog training tips:

  2. Set consistent and fair boundaries in and outside your home.
  3. Train for short spells on a regular daily basis.
  4. Handle and stroke and groom your dog every day.
  5. Be patient. If you find yourself getting frustrated and annoyed with your dog, stop and walk away.
  6. Don't compare your dog to anyone else's.
  7. Lean how to motivate your dog.
  8. Exercise your dog mentally and physically.
  9. Feed a good diet.
  10. Keep in mind that dogs do not speak English.
  11. Just like us dogs learn at different rates, so be patient.
  12. Practice training in different places, not just in the home.
  13. Don’t be put off by a bad experience, keep trying or seek help.
